LATIN AMERICAN DISHES, HOW TO COOK THEM IF YOU ARE IN COLOGNE & WHAT FOOD CAN TEACH YOU ABOUT IMMIGRATION AND GLOBALIZATION

Food is not only about cooking and eating. It is also a potential layer of understanding how social and cultural dynamics happen in local, regional or international scales. Through methods of photography, field work, collection of data in different digital sources, as well as counting on our own cultural background, we created this map with a collection of postcards about latin american ingredients. One of the goals is to explore food as a key-strategy to avoid exclusion, strengthten identities and therefore, promote the sense of belonging for immigrants.
One of our findings was related to the importers and exporters and we thought it is also interesting to be shown here. Despite the long-lasting traditions of those dishes in Latin America, many of those ingredients are maily imported to Germany from countries which are not located in Latin America. We didn`t skip to quick conclusions based on a short research, but it made us reflect on how unaware of the food supply system we are as consumers who only see the edge of this chain.
